How not to setup a custom subdomain on Tumblr

Do not create a CNAME for your subdomain. Tumblr’s FAQ is clear: create an A-record for your subdomain instead.

This left me head scratching for a few weeks as to why my subdomain was not resolving. I was paranoid - I thought I had to give up my entire TLD to Tumblr (confusing this with registrar/DNS transfers) and never thought it was possible to create A-records on subdomains.

I quickly then filed a support ticket with my hosters at VPSLand to revert my CNAME request and instead create an A-record for blog.bitfluent.com to point to 72.32.231.8.
